Breast Augmentation in Melbourne, FL

“For some, more bustline becomes more self-confidence.”

Women’s bodies are meant to be beautiful with gorgeous feminine curves, but sometimes those curves aren’t exactly how you want them to be. They may be too large, too flat, too small, or too asymmetrical. Many women who feel their breasts are too small or asymmetrical lack self-confidence and feel that their bodies do not reflect the feminine beauty of womanhood. Roxanne J. Guy, M.D., F.A.C.S., offers breast augmentation to create a more feminine shape for women who are dissatisfied with their small or asymmetrical breasts. Breast augmentation, also called augmentation mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure in which the breasts are enhanced in size and shape. Dr. Guy surgically inserts either silicone or saline implants into the breast area to add fullness, shape, and size to the natural breasts.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

When you meet with Dr. Guy for your private consultation regarding breast augmentation surgery, the two of you will discuss many details. Dr. Guy will evaluate your situation, your health, and your desires to determine the best surgical technique, implant type, and implant placement for you. Dr. Guy will also answer any questions or concerns you may have. To be a good candidate, you should be in good health and have realistic expectations. Before the procedure, Dr. Guy will provide you with instructions on how to prepare for surgery. As you discuss things openly with Dr. Guy and follow her instructions, you will have much to look forward to after your experience with breast augmentation.

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?

This outpatient procedure takes one to two hours, and Dr. Guy can conduct it with you under local or general anesthesia. Dr. Guy makes the incisions very carefully and discreetly so that the scars are as inconspicuous as possible. After making the incisions, Dr. Guy will strategically place the implants in the breasts to enhance the bustline. Once the stitches are closed and compression bandages are applied to help with the healing process, the surgery will be complete. Results are immediately visible.

What Should I Expect for My Breast Augmentation Recovery?

After surgery, you may experience soreness and fatigue for a few days. Many patients return to work within a few days after surgery. Throughout the healing process, there may be swelling, bruising, redness, and sensitivity in the breast area, but these will subside within the following weeks. Dr. Guy will give you instructions on how to perform postoperative massages to help your body adapt to the implants. Avoid direct stimulation and excess physical contact with your breasts for several weeks until they are no longer sore.

What Will My Breast Augmentation Results Be Like?

After several months, the scars will begin to fade. As your breasts heal and the implants settle into place, you will begin to see how your new appearance can enhance your life and confidence. You’ll be able to enjoy the beauty of modern medicine and your more feminine figure.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation

Is breast augmentations with implants safe?

Breast augmentation procedures and breast implants are relatively safe, although every surgery, no matter how simple, carries some level of risk. Common risks include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Negative reactions to the anesthesia
  • Seroma
  • Nerve damage (including loss of nipple sensitivity, which can be permanent)
  • Prolonged healing
  • Unfavorable scarring

In addition, breast implants pose their own complication risk, including:

  • Capsular contracture
  • Leaking or rupture
  • Displacement
  • Breast asymmetry

Dr. Guy is a board-certified and decorated plastic surgeon who puts her patient’s safety above all else.

How big will my breasts be after breast augmentation?

You are able to choose your implants’ size, and your breast implants can be as large as you desire (within reason). Dr. Guy will help you choose a size and shape most appropriate to your proportions.

Can I breastfeed children after breast augmentation surgery?

While breast augmentation does not prevent your ability to breastfeed, incisions made during breast augmentation may affect the amount of breast milk you can produce. This often varies on the techniques and incisions required for your implant placement. Dr. Guy can answer any questions you have regarding this during the consultation.

What implants does Dr. Guy offer?

Dr. Guy offers saline and silicone implants with round shapes and smooth surfaces. The right implant for you will depend on several factors discussed with Dr. Guy during your consultation.

Where will my breast augmentation incisions be made, and where are the implants placed?

Dr. Guy performs breast augmentation using several incision techniques, including the inframammary, periareolar, and transaxillary approaches.

  • The inframammary incision is made along the breast crease beneath the breast
  • The periareolar incision is made around the areola
  • The transaxillary incision is made within the armpit

While breast augmentation can be successful with any of these incision options, Dr. Guy prefers the inframammary approach for her patients and feels like it provides superior results.

Breast implants can be placed above (subglandular) or below (submuscular) the pectoral muscle. Dr. Guy prefers using the submuscular placement for breast implants.

Is there an age requirement to undergo breast augmentation?

The age requirement for breast augmentation is dependent on your implant choice. Saline implants are approved for women over 18; silicone implants are approved for women over 22. Breast augmentation is not recommended for women younger than 18, as the breasts may still be developing.

Can I get a breast revision if I don’t like my breast implants?

While many women are satisfied with their breast augmentation results, some feel they chose the wrong implant or decide that implants are not for them. Breast revision can be performed to change implant size or correct an implant complication, and breast implant removal can be performed for women who decide to return to their natural breast contour. In some cases of breast revision or breast implant removal, a breast lift may be recommended.

Patients are suggested to wait at least six months for their breast augmentation results to mature before opting for a breast revision.

How long will breast augmentation scars take to heal?

Scar healing is different for everyone. Typically, scars can take up to 18 months to fully heal and fade. The visibility of scars can be minimized with proper skin maintenance, such as the application of topical scar creams.

Can breast augmentation be combined with other procedures?

Breast augmentations are commonly combined with breast lift surgery for patients who experience breast ptosis (sagging). This sagging can be caused by pregnancy, aging, or significant weight loss.
