The Snap Back: How Do Lipo & Other Surgeries Help New Moms?
The term “the snap back” has fairly new roots, but what it refers to is something most new moms go through after giving birth: the desire to regain a youthful, feminine figure.
But “snapping back” after childbirth is typically easier said than done. Pregnancy causes muscles and tissues to stretch like they never have before. This loss of elasticity contributes to further issues, such as sagging skin, and makes it hard for the body to regain its former tone.
In today’s image-conscious world, it’s natural for new moms to feel the pressure to look their best. Dr. Guy offers cosmetic procedures designed to address the changes new moms go through, ensuring they feel more confident, attractive, and rejuvenated.
New Moms & New Bodies
Women expect to see their body change as they carry their little one. Less expected, however, is how these changes may linger even months after childbirth.
One of the ways the body adjusts to pregnancy is by stretching tissues and ligaments to make room for the growing baby. This stretching has a detrimental effect after childbirth, however, as it often leaves behind sagging skin or stretch marks and makes it harder to lose weight.
Breastfeeding and milk production can drastically change breast size. Much like other parts of the body affected by pregnancy, this stretching eventually causes breast tissue to start to sag and droop.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a term used to describe a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to help restore body contours after pregnancy. It can be customized to fit each woman’s specific needs.
Mommy makeover procedures typically include the following surgeries:
Also referred to as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck helps reduce the appearance of a protruding belly to create a flatter, smoother silhouette. Tummy tuck surgery is also used to restore abdominal muscles and tissues that have weakened or stretched—an issue that is common after pregnancy.
Dr. Guy typically performs tummy tuck surgery by using an incision just above the pubic area, from hip bone to hip bone, to separate skin from muscles. The skin and muscles are tightened and extra skin is removed.
For moms struggling with extra weight or sagging skin along their middles, a tummy tuck may be what they need to restore contours along the area.
This procedure helps melt away fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, and other body areas.
Dr. Guy typically performs liposuction as an outpatient procedure. There are two methods used:
Traditional tumescent liposuction involves the use of tumescent fluid, a liquid that usually contains amounts of lidocaine, saline, and epinephrine to provide anesthesia and lessen bleeding. Fat is then suctioned out with a vacuum pump or a large syringe.
VASERlipo® (Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction) involves Dr. Guy using an ultrasound probe to liquefy fat cells before they are removed. While this technique takes longer, VASERlipo® is more effective at removing large areas of fat and tends to leave less bruising or other side effects.
Liposuction recovery takes several weeks. Swelling and bruising are common, but most patients see improvements in body shape right after the procedure. After about three months, final results are apparent.
One of the most popular cosmetic procedures available, breast augmentation helps women restore feminine contours by using implants to create fuller, firmer breasts.
Breast augmentation involves inserting saline or silicone implants to enhance the breasts. There are several different options women can choose from regarding implant size, texture, and placement that all play a role in how the final results will look.
Breast augmentation can help new moms whose breasts have changed or lost firmness due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. Results can last over ten years.
This procedure is designed to tone the buttocks, hips, and thighs. Butt lift surgery also removes excess skin in these areas due to stretching or weight fluctuations.
Dr. Guy will lift the skin from the underlying tissue to remove excess fat and tighten the area. Recovery can take several weeks and patients may need to drain excess fluid with surgical tubes and wear compression garments to heal faster.
Since the lower body is so affected by childbirth, a butt lift may help restore tone for new moms struggling to reach their desired shape. Results are immediately noticeable.
