Dr. Roxanne Guy Inducted into American Association
of Plastic Surgeons
Guy honored for contributions to the field of plastic surgery One of just 13 women worldwide with AAPS membership
Brevard Plastic Surgery & Skin Treatment Center announced today that founder Dr. Roxanne Guy was inducted into the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS) at the 2005 Annual Meeting, held in May in Scottsdale, Arizona. The AAPS seeks to advance the science and art of plastic surgery through surgical education, research, scientific presentations and professional interaction. In order to maintain the high standards set by the Board, each member in the AAPS is hand-selected for Fellowship by existing members, who seek the top professionals in the field who can contribute to the advancement of the field of plastic surgery.
Dr. Guy was recommended for membership by Dr. E. Zook, Director and Chairman of Plastic Surgery, Southern Illinois University, and past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “Dr. Guy has been a great contributor to the ASPS, to plastic surgery and to her local community. No one deserves this honor and responsibility more than she,” comments Dr. E. Zook. She was selected for Active Fellowship as a result of recognized contributions in the field of plastic surgery in the areas of education, research, and clinical experience.
Guy has been published in numerous books, magazines and newspaper articles. Her career includes a 22-year history as an active participant in the research study protocols for silicone-gel breast implants. As the Vice President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Guy has had a leadership role during the effort to lift the ban on silicone-gel implants, testifying at the April FDA hearings to report the results of the Society’s survey of its membership about the performance of third generation implants.
Joining a select group of 638 physicians worldwide, Guy is one of just 13 women who have been inducted into the AAPS -- an elite distinction accounting for only 2% of the overall membership. With just 36 AAPS members in the entire state of Florida, Guy is the only inductee from Brevard County. “I am extremely proud to be a member of such a prestigious organization,” said Dr. Guy. “This is indeed a milestone achievement in my career.”
