Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin ® or other Facial Muscle Relaxants

“Get those annoying wrinkles and creases to relax for a change.”

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, commonly referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. Two other similar products are now on the market, called Dysport® and Xeomin®. The toxins blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox®, or the other neuromodulators are effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

Botox®, facial rejuvenation is generally performed on adult men and women whose facial tissue and muscles are in good condition. Botox®, treatments will not prevent patients from making natural facial expressions such as smiling, frowning or looking surprised. Benefits from Botox can last from 3 to 6 month.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Brevard Plastic Surgery & Skin Treatment Center uses all three of the muscle relaxers: Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. Dr. Guy will discuss with you which might be best for you, although they all work in the same manner to relax muscles and are all a form of purified botulinum toxin type A. Dr. Guy will be doing all of the injections.

Consultation & Preparation

Dr. Guy will discuss your goals and evaluate your individual case. Options such as combining Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin® treatments with other treatments, such as soft tissue fillers (Resylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm®, Radiesse®, etc.), may be examined as well as any suitable alternatives to Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin®. She will also discuss your health history, any past facial treatments, current medications, use of vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs.

Dr. Guy will carefully examine the muscle action that creates the conditions you wish to improve. Strategic points on your face and neck may be marked as injection points.

The Skin Treatment

The injection sites are cleansed with an antibacterial agent. Icing or a topical numbing agent may be offered to make sensitive patients more comfortable, although this is seldom necessary.
Injections only take a few moments per site so the entire treatment is usually 10 minutes or less, once the consultation and evaluation are finished. Following injections, each site is cleansed. Makeup can be reapplied as long as no pressure is applied to the injection sites.

Recovery & Results

This procedure requires no recovery period although certain physical activities may be restricted for an hour or two immediately following treatment. There are no signs of the treatment other than the possibility of some slight and very temporary swelling or bruising at the injection sites. An improved appearance and smoothing of creases and wrinkles will appear over the next few days or up to 2 weeks. Facial rejuvenation by Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin® does not change the appearance of your skin, it only relaxes the underlying muscles that cause the creases and wrinkles to soften.
