Body Lift Surgery
Individuals who have undergone massive weight loss surgery are often left with undesirable problem areas, including loose, sagging skin in various areas of the body. At Brevard Plastic Surgery & Skin Treatment Center in Melbourne, Florida, owner and founder Roxanne J. Guy, M.D., F.A.C.S. performs body lift surgery. Offering sensitivity and compassion, our body contouring surgeon can help patients achieve their desired results.
The body lift procedure is designed to remove excess skin and fat from specific areas of the body that are often seen in post-bariatric surgery patients. During an appointment with Dr. Guy, you will discuss your problem areas, and should you qualify for body lift surgery, she will create a personalized treatment plan. Based on your particular case, you may require one or more surgical visits. Typically, the arms, breasts, abdomen, lower back, hips, and thighs have the most excess skin.
Body Lift Procedure
The body lift is performed to remove excess skin and sometimes also fat from the torso and upper legs. It is a complicated procedure that can take three to seven hours under general anesthesia and involves a difficult recovery period of four to six weeks, but it offers an improvement in appearance for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight due to childbearing, diet, exercise or bariatric surgery, or who have loose, inelastic skin for other reasons. Body lifts can tighten and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks, hips and thighs. The procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, facelifts and arm lifts to regain a proper body proportion.
During the procedure, skin is lifted from underlying tissue, muscles are tightened and stitched and fat is removed where necessary, and the skin is sutured closed. Surgical tubes may be needed for several days to drain any fluid, and patients may need to wear compression garments for a few weeks to facilitate faster healing.
After surgery, our Melbourne body lift patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, although strenuous activities must be limited for about a month. Results are visible immediately.
Total Body Lift
Some of the most commonly performed body lift surgery procedures include the full circumferential lift, arm lift (“brachioplasty”), thigh lift (“thighplasty”), breast lift (“mastopexy”), and tummy tuck surgery (“abdominoplasty”). Stubborn pockets of fat may be removed through liposuction (“lipoplasty”). In addition, Viera, Melbourne, and Vero body contouring patients may be interested in facelift surgery (“rhytidectomy”) in order to reduce the appearance of loose jowls on the face.
Dr. Guy’s patient results are available in before and after body contouring photos. Furthermore, our 3D imaging system allows patients to view potential results prior to surgery.
