Beauty For Life with Dr. Roxanne Guy

Beauty For Life with Dr. Roxanne GuyBeauty For Life is just like being healthy for life. You want to exercise; you want to eat right; you want to follow your doctor’s instructions. Well, beauty and health go hand-in-hand. Beauty For Life is a concept that started about five years ago in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. I was President of that Society in 2007. There are a lot of people who don’t want surgery or they are not quite ready for surgery yet, and it occurred to many of us that there was actually a continuum in the treatment of the skin, and of the body, and of the face that would lead to Beauty throughout the Lifetime.

For one thing, good skin care. I mean, we now know that you need to have a sunscreen and not bake yourself to death and not go out with baby oil and iodine and ruin your skin, but there are moisturizers; there are facials; there are different skin products that are actually medical grade skin products that can really make a difference long-term and stave off some of those little wrinkles, some of those little keratoses and those sorts of things, and then as you go along in age, you might start with some muscle relaxants like Botox, so that those frown lines don’t get so deep. You might start with some injectable fillers so those lines don’t get so deep. You might go on to some laser resurfacing, to some chemical peels. By the time you are ready for surgery, you haven’t ruined your skin. You’ve got the whole palate with which to work so that everything stays pretty and in proportion.

In my office in Melbourne, we have two Certified Estheticians, and they are very dedicated to skin care. They don’t just slap on skin peels or try to sell you all sorts of products. They truly are interested in whether your skin is going to remain healthy. One of the main issues for skin health is to actually see them on a fairly regular basis. I say about every month to six weeks get a facial, have them work with your skin, clean out those pores, have them suggest, oh, maybe your skin is a little dry we need to add something, maybe you need a little antioxidant now, and we have the tools to use medical grade skin care to its best advantage in relationship to these very well-trained professionals who know about skin. So, we can provide the wonderful relaxing facial, as well as something that’s really good for your skin.
